General Context – Organization vision, mission and role in the country

Un Ponte Per … is an association for international solidarity born in 1991 to assist populations affected by the Gulf War. From the very beginning, its aim has been the promotion of solidarity initiatives. Originally called “Un Ponte Per Baghdad”, the association later became simply Un Ponte Per… after expanding its work into Serbia, Kosovo and various Middle Eastern and Mediterranean countries. The purpose of the association is to prevent the outbreak of new conflicts, particularly in the Middle East, through advocacy campaigns, cultural exchanges, cooperation projects and civil peace interventions. Un Ponte Per… considers solidarity interventions to be indivisible from the commitment to building links between the Italian civil society and the civil societies of the countries in which it operates.UPP has been active in Jordan for 11 years, working with local organizations that support the rights and protection of vulnerable communities, including women, children, people with disabilities, Syrian refugees and other minorities. After implementing interventions in the Education, Health, and Livelihoods sectors, Un Ponte Per… is now operating through Protection projects for both the host and the refugee communities, targeting various needs of vulnerable populations through comprehensive protection services.

Project – Description of the project the position attains

Enaya Project aims at addressing the protection of women, men, girls and boys from Syrian refugee and Jordanian communities, and vulnerable minorities residing in Amman, Zarqa, Karak and Ma’an governorates. The overall project objective is to promote access to a comprehensive range of protection services, including legal aid, empowerment of women, gender equality and disability inclusion, for most vulnerable refugees and the host communities living in the targeted areas.

Terms of references:

The Protection Officer will organize and implement the following activities:

· Conducting support groups for women and girls with disabilities in reproductive age and their caregivers with a special focus on adolescent girls, in collaboration with the Gender Advisor, to improve their knowledge around the reproductive, obstetric and neonatal care for women and girls with all kinds of disabilities, improving their access to RH services and provide them with information on gender roles and SGBV.

· Strengthening the skills of beneficiaries in the humanitarian sector through traineeship opportunities. The Protection Officer, in coordination with the Referral Officer and the Gender Advisor, will monitor and evaluate the trainees and the activity throughout the training period to assess the impact of the project.

· Conducting discussion group sessions for Syrian and Jordanian adolescent boys and girls, to improve their knowledge around gender-related themes, focusing on equality and equity.

· Organizing awareness sessions for women from the Sudanese and the Somali refugee communities, covering several topics such like: labor law, shelter and housing, legal status, racism, SGBV, reproductive health, family planning, better parenting skills. The Protection Officer will coordinate with the Referral Officer, the Gender Advisor and the local partner organization.

The Protection Officer will supervise/ participate in the following activities:

· Setting up a referral system to refer people in need to the available services in the area and to facilitate the cases intake. The activity will be directly implemented by the Referral Officer, while the Protection Officer will coordinate with the field staff in order to minimize protection risks for women and girls while reaching services.

· Setting up a hotline as an information tool, outreach, identification and management of cases. The Protection Officer will coordinate with the Referral Officer and the Outreach Officer/the Lawyer to assess the needs once the beneficiary has established contact with the hotline, proposing protection services and possibly referring to other organizations.

· Conducting a radio campaign for information about the legal services available. The Protection Officer will participate in each radio episodes in quality of protection expert.

· Carrying out peer counseling sessions for PWDs to conduct outreach activities. The Protection Officer will monitor and evaluate the activity in coordination in the peer counselors, in order to assess the impact of the project and compose reports on the activity progress.

The Protection Officer will support the Project Manager in the daily monitoring and implementation of effective and qualitative protection-related field activities, and will ensure the constant respect of protection best-practices and in all phases of the projects. This includes:

· Providing technical guidance to UPP staff ensuring respect of protection best-practices and the quality implementation and achievements of results;

· Carry out assessments of protection and health related needs, identify problems/gaps and propose/prioritize timely practical actions to respond to particular protection problems related to beneficiaries.

· Designing and delivering protection-related trainings and workshops according to the staff needs as requested from the Project Manager and the Head of Office.

· Supporting the production of relevant material on protection-related issues as per project need;

· Producing regular protection-related reports;

· Cooperating constantly with the project manager to identify protection gaps in the project implementation and most suitable intervention.

· Representing UPP in the relevant Protection meetings and working groups;

· Performing any other task assigned by the Project Manager and/or Head of Office to improve mission adherence to the protection best practices.

Competencies and assets required:

· Bachelor degree in a field related to protection, gender studies, social studies and related fields.

· Essential previous experience in the humanitarian sector in a national or international NGO dealing with forcibly displaced communities.

· Strong organizational skills, a proven ability to establish priorities and plans, an ability to work independently and show leadership and initiative within a team environment.

· Strong familiarity with MS Office applications

· Ability to pay close attention to details and work with minimal supervision

· Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines

· Fluent in English and Arabic language.

Competencies and assets desired:

· Three years of relevant work experience.

· Familiarity with the Syrian refugee crisis in Jordan or in other states of the region.

· Experience working or volunteering with people with disabilities.
