Position Title: Health Program Officer

EMPLOYMENT PERIOD

· ABOUT SRD

SRD is an international non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to the reduction of suffering and working to provide humanitarian relief in Syria and in Jordan. SRD is seeking a Livelihood ProjectOfficer to support ongoing livelihood programs in Southern Syria (Remote Management).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Provide life-saving PHC services for communities based on the internationally accepted Essential Primary Health Care Package of health services.

· Supported PHCs will provide services according to national/international standards for the Essential Package of Health Services (PHC standards developed by the health cluster, specific to Syria). Existing capacities of health staff will be assessed and interventions will priorities strengthening of live-saving services to meet most urgent needs and gaps

· Facilitate a comprehensive community health programme to support public health surveillance and enable community members to improve key family and community practices and to prevent diseases.

· The project will provide support for 6 comprehensive community, through a network of community health supervisors (CHS) and community health workers (CHWs).

· Provide screening of every child 6-59 months of age, as well as PLW, with referral and treatment for SAM or MAM

· Provide caregivers with nutrition education on IYCF and maternal dietary diversity and follow-up screening.

TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES (MAIN TASKS):

· Health Systems Strengthening & Clinical Support

· Provide guidelines and training for PHC staff on IMCI, reproductive health care, outbreak preparedness and response, and clinic management

· Provide supportive supervision for PHC on at least monthly basis

· Capacity building of implementing staff for direct supervision and support of services

· Coordinate with and work alongside the health team and the Health Coordination Working Group

· Conduct baseline and follow-up KAP household survey measuring key health parameters, including practice of exclusive breastfeeding

· Work with community leaders and committees to identify, recruit, and train community health workers (CHWs) (trained in health education messages but without formal health background)

· Delivery of behavior change communication through CHWs’ monthly household visits to selected households

· Provide direct monthly supportive supervision for 10 Community Health Supervisors and receive feedback about performance of up to 40 Community Health Workers

· CHWs trained in behavior change communication (BCC) and facilitation of household visits; focusing on pregnant women and mothers of young children, as well as the influencing groups of fathers and grandmothers; for coaching in health and hygiene behavior (and IYCF messaging as per Nutrition Sector).

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

• Fluency in English and Arabic is required.

• He/She Jordanian or Syrian National

• Excellent program planning, monitoring and evaluation, interpersonal and report writing skills

• Proficient in the use of computer applications

• Ability to work independently, take the initiative and take responsibility

• Strong commitment to humanitarian principles

• Organization and ability to manage priorities

• Proactive approach to making proposals and identifying solutions

• Ability to work and manage professionally and maturely

• Ability to integrate into the local environment, taking account of its political, economic and historical characteristics

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

· One to two years of professional experience in public health planning and management or any related field

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

· University Degree in public health, global health, paediatric health, nursing, pharmacy or health management or other health-related sciences is required or in any related degree.
