Mental Health Specialist – Trainer

Project ref: Rihlat Amani (My journey to safety). Initiative to support the achievement of minimum protection standards for particularly vulnerable people among refugees and host communities in the governorates of Amman and Zarqa.

Project purpose:

Increase access to integrated mental health and protection services and provide services for the prevention and response to gender-based violence and on minors and people with disabilities in the Governorates of Amman and Zarqa.

Job Overview:

We are looking for an organized and experienced mental health specialised trainer to join our organization. The MH specialist will be responsible for creating and delivering a training development plan on Psychological first aid (PFA), mental health (MH) and disability inclusion, and MH in schools, complete with materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides. The ideal candidate will be a confident public speaker and a devoted educator who is up-to-date on the latest tools and resources needed to deliver a comprehensive training with noticeable outcomes. The specialist will also be responsible for tracking and evaluating the trainees’ progress, and following up on needed actions for the training. The trainings will be carried out for staff and volunteers of local community based organizations (CBO) and organizations for persons with disabilities (PDO).

Specific modules will be delivered in coordination with UPP project staff and may include:

Basics of Mental Health and Psycho social Support (PSS) in Emergencies

· Psychological First Aid (PFA) with focus on children and survivors of GBV

· Identification of psychosocial distress and referrals

· Basics of community counselling

· Prevention and awareness techniques on mental health sensitization

· Stress management techniques

· Mental health in schools

· Mental Health and disability inclusion

The Mental Health Specialist main responsibilities are:

· Develop a schedule to assess specific training needs of staff and volunteers of CBOs and PDOs, by conducting short surveys and interviews.

· Conceptualize training materials based on compiled data and research.

· Develop training strategies, initiatives, and materials for proposed training topics, and maintain a database of all training materials.

· Test and review created materials.

· Coordinate and conduct trainings in respective CBOs and PDOs.

· Review trainees’ performance and learning.

· Adhere to and administer organizational procedures regarding implementation, documentation and reporting of activities and progress under supervision of the Project Manager.

Qualifications of Mental Health Counselor

· At least 5 years of related experience performing required tasks, preferably in complex emergency or relief context.

· BA or BS in psychology or other relevant studies; or extensive experience in case management in Protection / PSS programming

· Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English languages.

· Strong knowledge of psychosocial support and protection, as well as child and/or youth development.

· Excellent training and coaching skills.

· Experience in the region and emergency settings.

· Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

· Strong verbal and written communications skills.

· Solid experience with the provision of psychosocial support and Psychosocial First Aid.
