Access to quality education for every Palestine refugee child
UNRWA has worked for close to 70 years to ensure that all Palestine refugee children have access to quality education. You will be joining a team of nearly 22,000 Education Staff across the Agency working to ensure the right of quality education to over half a million Palestine refugee children. High-quality basic education provides young Palestine refugees with an understanding of their place in the world and a common set of key values, including dignity, tolerance, cultural identity, gender equality and human rights, and helps them develop the skills to thrive as adults in an evolving, challenging landscape.
Our students are among the most highly educated in the region. Since the 1960s, girls have made up around half of UNRWA students. UNRWA students’ literacy and levels of educational attainment are among the highest in the Middle East.

If you are passionate about making a lasting difference for Palestine refugees, this role will provide you with the opportunity to provide strategic support and assistance on a range of issues, to ensure the delivery of quality, inclusive, and equitable education for Palestine refugee children.
The main responsibilities include:
 Providing strategic support and guidance on the implementation of the Curriculum Framework and the standardization of quality enrichment approaches across all Fields and monitoring and assessing the overall implementation of the Framework in line with the Agency’s Medium Term Strategy and Common Monitoring Framework;
 Supporting the implementation and monitoring of a systemic approach for ensuring that curriculum is neutral, bias free and in line with UN values including providing capacity building of area staff within the Education Department and Fields;
 Providing technical support to the development, planning, implementation and monitoring of student assessment processes, materials and tools, including the Monitoring of Learning Assessment (MLA), and supporting the analysis of assessment related data;
 Keeping abreast and building awareness of different approaches, good practices and methods of work reflecting global and regional trends in key substantive education areas and engaging with the Office of the Director and UNRWA education staff in exploring their relevance;
 Coordinating with the communication focal point within the Education Department and the External Relations and Communication Department (ERCD) to ensure quality reporting, messaging and strategic public information work concerning curriculum and other key cross-sectoral education issues;
 Providing technical and operational support to the education programme in all key substantive quality areas, including project development and implementation, to ensure integration, coherence and harmonization within the Education Department and across other UNRWA Divisions and Departments;
 Contributing to the development and implementation of education related policies and procedures, including Education Technical Instructions, to help ensure optimum efficiency and efficacy of the education programme.
Conditions of service
UNRWA offers an attractive compensation package including annual salary starting at $59,151 net tax free, plus post adjustment of 48% (subject to change without notice). All UNRWA duty stations (with the exception of Gaza and Syria) are family duty stations. Other benefits, subject to eligibility, include:

Additional information
The incumbent will be based in Amman and may be required to travel throughout the Agency’s area of operations in the Middle East and beyond.
To qualify for this position, you will need:
Education
A university degree from an accredited educational institution in education, social science or other related area;
Work
experience
At least six years of relevant professional experience at national and international levels in fields relevant to education, including at least two years of relevant work experience at the international level outside your home country;
Language(s)
Excellent command of spoken and written English.
You will also need to demonstrate the following competencies:
