Technical Assistant ( Project Architect)

AVSI Foundation, an NGO created in 1972, carries out cooperation projects for development, with particular emphasis on education. In its work, its attention is focused on the defense and promotion of the dignity of the person, the cornerstone of every project. We work all around the world thanks to a network of 35 founding members and more than 700 partners worldwide.
AVSI Foundation has been operating in Jordan since 2006 and contributed in supporting the most vulnerable local communities, Palestinian, Iraqi and Syrian refugees through providing projects and activities that focus on health and psycho-social assistance, education, vocational training and job placement and income-generating activities.
AVSI Foundation will start executing Cash for Work project funded by GIZ under the Syrian response programs in the District of Gweirah, Aqaba Governorate in Jordan. The project focuses on the establishment and improvement of green infrastructure / public open space In Gweirah through participatory design approach and implementation process. The works are implemented with the participation and support of semi-skilled and unskilled vulnerable cash workers. The direct beneficiaries of the project are mainly Jordanians and Syrians.
MAIN OBJECTIVE: The technical Assistant (Project Architect) will be responsible on developing the designs and technical drawings for the public spaces of Gweirah through Community participation workshops. Support the Project manager work and supervise the implementation of the works on site.
Main RESPONSIBILITIES:
-Work on area mapping and develop methods, tools and techniques for the intervention.
-Participate in developing the community participation design workshops.
-Produce plans and specifications of the intervention following the community participation design workshops.
-Produce technical details according to the Jordanian standards of rehabilitation of public spaces.
-Support developing the work breakdown structure and work schedule with the project manager and the site Engineer.
-Selection of durable and available materials and finishes that are environmental friendly and suitable for the region of Gweirah.
-Check and approve the BoQs for the works produced by the site engineer
-Support the project manager in developing and Defining the M&E tools in coordination with the M&E department in GIZ.
-Support the works on site, division of the working groups and supervise the team’s activities in relation to the project schedule.
-Preparation of the monthly technical report to the Donor.
-Final quality and quantity control and preparation of final project report to the Donor.
-Perform any other duties as requested by immediate Supervisor.
REPORTING TO : Project Coordinator.
STUDIES REQUIREMENTS: Degree in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design and development or any other related field of specialty.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
-Strong Experience in upgrading public spaces and urban development.
-Strong Experience in Landscape Architecture
-Knowledge in participatory design approach process.
-Knowledge in community based interventions.
-Strong technical skills and knowledge in drafting software’s ( AutoCad )
-Strong technical skills in Visual communication software’s ( Photoshop, InDesign)
-Knowledge in site supervision for landscape projects.
-Knowledge in construction materials suitable for the context and the nature of the implementation.
-Excellent oral and written communication skills in Arabic and English languages.
-Good knowledge of the local context of the south of Jordan.
-Strong teamwork skills.
-Strong reporting skills.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
-Knowledge in project management tools.
-Strong communication skills and abilities to mobilize stakeholders.
-Strong interpersonal skills.
