In Irbid DRC is implementing livelihood programs supporting ongoing cash for work (CfW) projects, protection monitoring, legal awareness, community dialogue platforms and engagement projects; as well as a project which aims to provide a livelihood referral pathway to enhance self-reliance of Syrian refugees and Jordanians.

The Team Leader-Livelihood will be responsible for coordinating, overseeing and directly implementing DRC’s livelihood activities under current GIZ and UNHCR funding in Irbid. This livelihood team leader will also support the livelihood technical unit in the field roll out of tools and standard operating procedures (SOPs) as well as quality assurance monitoring of technical programs. . The individual will report directly to the Livelihood team leader based in Irbid with managerial oversight by the project manager.

About the job

The individual will report directly to the Base Manager-Irbid. The main duties and responsibilities will be:

• Oversee and supervise all livelihood activities and teams in Irbid base.

• Work closely with the Project Manager, DRC program team and support departments to implement the project in line with the objectives laid out in the proposal and in collaboration with local implementing partner/s.

• Organize recurring financial literacy training sessions and the distribution of micro business grants to participants;

• Co-coordinate the launch of assessments, key informant interviews, and focus group discussions on livelihoods and market ecosystems in each base;

• Launch a private sector and labour market service mapping exercise within Irbid;

• Manage and distribute the daily tasks and create a weekly plan for the team.

• Field visits to multiple locations to follow up on the project activities.

• Follow up on the livelihood activities such as (job referral, labor formalization, self-employment and micro grants …etc).

• Supervise ATM and cash distribution.

• Support the project manager to modify the livelihood activities to fit with the context of the north.

• Work closely with the logistic and finance departments to implements the projects activities in Irbid.

• Support the project manager to manage the financial aspects of the project (forecast and spending tracking).

• Support the project manager in submitting monthly reports.

• Ensure livelihood activities are implemented in a way that meets or exceeds standards set by DRC;

• Support in data collection, monitoring, and evaluation efforts with DRC’s Monitoring and Evaluation assistants as needed;

• Support continual improvement of DRC’s livelihood activities by capturing and sharing key challenges, articulating obstacles and proposed solutions, and identifying success stories to highlight.

• Participate as part of the DRC Selection Committee, during the review process of business plans, and selection of business grant recipients

• Ensure regular, proper project documentation and contribute to reporting and internal information sharing with relevant program and support teams.

About you

Bachelor’s degree in relevant area (e.g. economics, development studies, Business) advantageous or a combination of a business related university degree and additional relevant experience.

Moreover, we also expect the following:

Required / Desirable

• A minimum of 4 years’ experience in business development, market mapping exercises, or economic development research.

• Good knowledge of project monitoring systems to track the effectiveness of programs and an ability to maintain cooperative, professional relationships with donors, partners and peer organizations.

• Experience in working on project implementation jointly with local organizations as implementing partners.

• Strong understanding of market and private sector dynamics in the project location;

• Good interpersonal skills and ability to foster communication and negotiation among local stakeholders;

• Strong organizational and time management skills;

• Ability to work effectively as an integral part of a multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and to work with a wide range of government and community counterparts, and other stakeholders;

• Understanding of the socio-economic conditions of Syrian refugee populations a must;

• Ability and willingness to maintain regular presence at project sites and to work during irregular working hours;

• Ability to write reports in a timely fashion;

• Computer skills (Excel, Microsoft, PowerPoint and Outlook).

• Demonstrated experience with business plans development and review.

• Demonstrated experience with marketing plans and review.

• Understanding and knowledge of economic development and recovery principles in an urban and rural context

• Understanding of the socio-economic conditions and labour market constraints of Syrian refugees highly desired;

• Ability to work effectively as an integral part of multi-disciplinary, multi-cultural team and to work with a wide range of government and community counterparts, and other actors;

• Customer-service oriented, able to manage competing priorities, and resourceful in problem solving

• Proven ability to work independently as required.

We offer

Contract length: 6 Month contract including three months as probation period, renewable based on both funding and performance.

Designation of Duty Station: Irbid

Start date: ASAP
