Resilience Programming Trainer – MHPSS (based in Amman, Jordan)

The Resilience Programming Trainer will take a leading role in a regional project that promotes the individual and organizational well-being of civil society in the Middle East. Working alongside other experts and regional project staff, the Trainer will help design and deliver tailored training on psychosocial care to civil society actors facing adversity. The Trainer will guide implementation of individual and organizational resilience building, and work closely with other team members on achievement of collaborative project goals.

Organization: CVT is an international nonprofit dedicated to provide trauma rehabilitative services to survivors of gross human rights abuses and works toward a future in which gross human rights violations ceases to exist and its victims have hope for a new life. We are headquartered in Minnesota, USA with offices in Africa and the Middle East. We work locally, nationally and internationally through programs that provide trauma rehabilitative services, conduct technical assistance and capacity building to human rights activists, civil society organizations, and local service providers around the world who can prevent and treat gross human rights abuses, and advocate for human rights and an end to gross human rights violations. CVT’s operations in the MENA region continue to grow and respond to dynamic needs across borders. CVT’s Regional Office registered under the name The Center for Victims of Trauma supports new and innovative programming; it offers a stimulating, rewarding, and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Material Development and Training: Develop curriculum on psychosocial care for civil society actors who experience difficult work conditions and may be exposed to high levels of stress and/or traumatic experiences. Conduct trainings (including Training of Trainers) and ongoing consultation in-person, remotely, and on e-learning platforms. Document curriculum and develop manuals and other resources.
  • Individual and Organizational Staff Support: Provide in-person and remote mentoring for project partners on resilience. Consult with human rights organizations and project team members to assess, develop, and implement staff support practices, policies, and structures aimed at fostering both individual and organizational resilience. Support individuals and organizations in developing and implementing trauma-informed capacity-building plans aimed at strengthening their resilience in the face of adversity. Provide brief supportive (tele)mental health and psychosocial interventions to individual project partners as necessary. Conduct periodic site visits, if conditions allow.
  • Integrated Program Development:Ensure progress of resilience-related programming and activities to ensure achievement of projects’ goals and quality of services provided. Work closely with internal and external team members, including other experts, to design an integrated and collaborative approach to project implementation, to respond to evolving project and partner needs, to recommend changes in project activities as necessary, and to support implementation of project adaptations. Foster a culture of exchange and knowledge-sharing among partners; promote collaboration among all stakeholders, facilitate communication, and serve as a project liaison who upholds the organization’s values.
  • Reporting and Documentation:Contribute to donor and other reports that document knowledge gained through the project. Participate in project evaluation.
  • Other Duties: Participate in project team, department, and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifictions:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations:

  • MA in Psychology, Counseling, Clinical Social Work or related field.
  • Experience working in multiple locations or with partners from throughout the Middle East and North Africa region
  • Experience providing psychotherapy to survivors of trauma.
  • Experience working with civil society actors, including human rights defenders.
  • Experience supporting organizational staff to maintain personal and professional well-being and to manage job stress and vicarious trauma.
  • Experience working in cross-cultural contexts.
  • International work experience with local or international NGOs.

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience providing remote staff support.
  • Experience designing and delivering telemental health services.
  • Experience developing online curriculum and training.
  • Certification or licensure as a psychologist or psychotherapist

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

  • Written and spoken fluency in English and Arabic is required; French language skills an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of latest research and practices related to resilience, staff care and psychosocial support.
  • Excellent skills in curriculum development and high-engagement training delivery with the ability to match level of content to the audience.
  • Knowledge of diverse capacity development methods and designs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work highly independently in multiple cultural contexts.
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an interactive team.
  • Awareness and sensitivity to cultural, political, social and economic contextual factors.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements and political climate.
  • Demonstrated commitment to human rights.
  • Commitment to the ethical and sensitive implementation of project activities, including a commitment to confidentiality, quality service provision, and the prevention of sexual exploitation, abuse, and harassment (including online)
  • Ability to travel up to 40% time internationally to developing countries. Some work sites may be located in politically unstable areas with limited amenities.

Work Environment:

  • Work week is Sunday through Thursday
  • Under normal conditions, work will be completed in a typical office environment
  • Remote working from home when necessary due to public health conditions
  • Time spent on computer is approximately 80%
  • Travel throughout the region, public health and safety/security conditions permitting
