About the MENA region

The MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region implements and manages programmes in Yemen, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, and Jordan.

Programmes within the MENA region reflect Oxfam’s approach to work across the globe. We support self-reliance, not dependency, and to complement our work on the ground we strive to secure lasting change through our campaigning.

The Role

The SWM Senior Officer will coordinate the implementation of the project amongst various stakeholders in designated areas. At field level s/he will liaise with Oxfam’s Cash for Work, Solid Waste Management, team and Community engagement teams to ensure the project’s implementation in line with workplans and set indicators.

Our role will require a range of skills and experience.

Essential

• to have at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the field of solid waste management and or recycling and other related environmental initiatives.
• Education: Graduate from a recognized university (preferably within the field of Social Science, environmental, management, Environmental sciences etc);
• Experience or willingness to work with nationals and Syrian refugees in the HC
• Experience or familiarity with the basic concept of social mobilization, demonstrated willingness to learn and work with people for community development. Able to spend extended periods of work with community members.
• Experience in mitigating conflicts and disputes between members of a community and community leaders
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Experience of Cash for Work programming.
• Able to collect, enter and analyse data
• Experience of working in a multicultural team.
• Good written and spoken English and Arabic is essential
• Good coordination skills; and strong commitment to gender equality and social justice;
• Proven knowledge of computerised systems, a high degree of computer literacy, especially word processing and spreadsheet skills
• Potential and flexibility of attitude to learn;
• Able to work under pressure, ability to prioritise and commitment to meet deadlines
• The post holder should be at ease in working with local communities and Syrian refugees.
• Sympathy with the aims and objectives of Oxfam.
• Commitment to humanitarian principles and action and to Oxfam’s equal opportunity and gender policies

Desirable

• Experience of working in a multicultural team.
• Ability and experience to train people

Contract Length: Till the end of December 2020, renewable.
