Position: English Language Program Volunteer

Location: Za’atari & Azraq Refugee Camp

Reports to: Camps Education Program-Youth Coordinator

Duration: 3 months

ABOUT RI: Relief International specializes in relief and development programs that benefit people in acute distress. A registered non-profit in the US, UK, France and Belgium, our work targets those fragile countries or communities that suffer from recurrent man-made or natural crises that impede human development. The people that we serve live in seventeen countries across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia where the debilitating effects of political instability, forced displacement, and natural disasters are pervasive. Often, RI is the only organization providing healthcare, education, logistics, energy, capacity building, economic development, sanitation, and many other forms of assistance to these highly vulnerable communities.

Summary:

Under the supervision of the Camps Education Program-Youth Coordinator, the English Language Program Volunteer will serve as a resource to both Syrian/ Jordanian English teachers. The English Language Program Volunteer will be responsible for evaluating teacher performance and responding to the professional capacity development needs of Syrian, and Jordanian English teachers. In addition, providing classes and creating English language events for the students of the camps. The volunteer should expect to work in Azraq or Za’atari camp.

Essential Position Responsibilities and Duties:

• Observe classes for both Syrian and Jordanian English teachers and provide written or verbal feedback targeting teaching strategies, pedagogical practices, etc.
• Activate the English Language lab and build its capacity by planning events and requesting supplies and supplemental materials.
• Provide capacity building trainings for Syrian and Jordanian teacher as needed.

Organize and participate in English language events, conversation hours, and extracurricular opportunities for students and parents.

• Create and lead an English conversation clubs for the students and Syrian Volunteers.
• Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Minimum requirements:

• BA or BS in English language instruction.
• Previous experience teaching English to non-native English speakers.
• Experience working with children and youth.
• Exceptional analytical, writing, and verbal communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, effectively, and professionally.
• Mature judgment, strong sense of integrity and initiative.
• Native English speaker.
• High level of creativity.
• Information and computer literacy (MS Office package).

Desirable:

• Master’s degree in TESOL, English education, curriculum development, or a related field.
• Previous work experience in conflict, post-conflict environments, preferably among (Syrian) refugee communities.
• Previous experience facilitating trainings and/or coordinating volunteers.

Notes:

Relief International will NOT be offering flight tickets, accommodation and Visa/Work Permits.
