The role

The Education Programme officer will support the Program Manager in all education-related matters for the south central Syria area office. They will be expected to lead on a portfolio of education projects with the support of the PM and support all education-related assessments, and project implementation including the training, mentoring and coaching of partners. In addition, the Officer will support the Programme manager in overseeing the monitoring & evaluation of education activities for projects under his/her purview. Supervised by the Programme Manager, the Education officer will ensure that all components of the programme are delivered effectively and in accordance with SCI standards, as well as SC value and principles, and to provide the highest quality programming to beneficiaries.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

• Experience of working in humanitarian education programs
• Skills and experience with Education in Emergencies
• Previous experience of programme management across multiple locations
• Commitment to, thorough understanding of, and able to train staff in participation and accountability approaches
• Demonstrated experience in leading assessment activities and of designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating education programmes
• Demonstrated ability to set up monitoring & evaluation systems.
• Experience of senior level representation, including Cluster coordination
• Experience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors
• Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment and project reports
• Excellent communication skills with a high level of written and spoken English
• Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
• The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
• Experience working with civil society on humanitarian and development programming
• Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate and child focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
• Language skills in Arabic and English

Contract length: 12 months
