Médecins Sans Frontières is an international independent medical-humanitarian organization, which helps populations in distress, from victims of natural or man-made disasters to victims of armed conflict, without discrimination and irrespective of race, religion, creed or political affiliation.

The MSF movement is built around five operational directorates supported by MSF’s 21 sections, 24 associations and other offices together worldwide. MSF OCBA is one of those directorates. The operations are implemented by field teams and the mission coordination teams; together with the organizational units based in Barcelona, Athens and decentralised in Nairobi, Dakar and Amman.

MSF OCBA has a portfolio marked by a strong presence in contexts dominated by violence and conflict, with an emergency focus and a tendency to prioritise populations that are hard to reach and / or isolated. The critical choices MSF OCBA makes are governed by this focus and its portfolios reflect this ambition.

The OCBA Operational Cell 1 (Middle East) current portfolio includes the missions in Turkey, Syria, Palestine and Yemen.

• The Middle East Unit is a decentralised structure created to support operations in the Middle East.
• The Middle East Unit includes the Middle East Cell 1 and other positions that provide technical and operational support, training, representation and advocacy support to the field missions.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

Management of MSF Turkey social media channels as part of MSF´s operational communication strategy as well as contribution to, when needed, to crisis communication management.

Reporting Lines of the Position

The social Media Officer will report:

• Hierarchically: to Opertions Manager for the Middle East based in Amman.
• Functionally: to Comms Advisor for the Middle East based in Barcelona.

Accountabilities:

• Translating, editing and curating content for publishing on MSF social media accounts (currently Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) and MSF web page.
• Monitoring and analyzing online topics and trending subjects which are relevant to MSF.
• Monitoring for mentions of MSF on social media and report to supervisors on problematic MSF mentions on social media. Reply to comments and engagements, as appropriate, with guidance from supervisors.
• Support external monitoring of traditional media, translating content as required.
• Monitoring backend analytics and evaluating engagement of followers by geographic location, demographics, etc. Provide contextual advise related to social media use and trends in the country.
• Participating in communication data-collection and reporting as required.

SELECTION CRITERIA

University or College Degree or Certificate in a relevant field.

Candidates without a University of College education may be considered if they possess significant additional experience (5-plus years) in social media management, monitoring and content production.

• At least 2 years of professional experience in social media management and community building.
• Experience in basic social media content production and messaging.
• Experience in social media monitoring and reporting.
• Excellent command of written and spoken Turkish and proficiency in English required.
• Turkish as native language is an asset.
• Excellent writing skills. Good knowledge of traditional media and thorough understanding of social media.
• Good networking and media relations skills desired. Essential good knowledge of social media monitoring and content management tools.

CONDITIONS

• Based in Amman at the Médecins Sans Frontières OCBA decentralized Headquarters (MEU),
• Part time Job (50%), six months contract
• Annual gross salary based on MSF OCBA reward policy (divided in 12 payments) + secondary benefits.
• Starting date: April 2020
