UNOPS is undertaking a project that aims to support Labor-intensive Maintenance in Public Areas that focuses on improving the access to quality education with equitable employment opportunities, using the Cash for Work modality (CfW) for both Jordanians and Syrian refugees.The project entails the provision of maintenance works in selected public schools across six governorates in Jordan. This project will not only address the short-term needs in maintenance across the Jordanian Education Sector, but also support the Ministry of Education in Jordan in developing a sustainable school maintenance mechanism.
Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Amman Opeartional Hub and the Head of Programme, and under the direct supervision of the Project Manager, the Communication Officer will be required to perform the following duties and responsibilities:
- Develop a communication and stakeholder engagement plan;
- Support the PM in stakeholder management activities;
- Develop communication/ outreach materials/ tools and work closely with the Field Coordinators;
- Organize public relation events throughout project implementation;
- Contribute to the preparation of evidence-based progress reports and other project related documents;
- Coordinates with the project team in documenting lessons learned, best practices and advocacy materials;
- Preparation of press releases, web-content;
- Interact with partner agencies communication focal points for harmonized messaging;Liaise with the UNOPS Hub Communications Officer in preparing relevant documentation and materials for sub-regional, regional and corporate communications; Perform any other related duties, as assigned.
Education/Experience/Language requirements
- Advanced university degree (Master degree or equivalent) in communications, journalism, public relations, international development, business administration, political science or international relations.
- A first level university degree in communications, journalism, public relations, international development, business administration, political science or international relation, with combination of 2 years of additional relevant experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in research and analysis, reporting, external relations, communications, advocacy, and/or outreach in national/international organizations is required.
- Experience in producing analytical reports and communications products is required.
- Experience in the humanitarian and/or development sector is required. Experience in the Middle East is preferred.
- Experience with an international organization and/or UN agencies is desirable.
- Experience in preparing, coordinating, and leading donor reporting processes is required.
- Computer literacy in particular MS Word, Excel, Visio, and PowerPoint is required.
- Ability to analyze online communications using performance indicators is desirable.
- Excellent understanding on the intersection of technology, web design, editorial, digital, social media and multimedia platforms is desirable.
- Knowledge of digital media, visual communications and interactive storytelling methods is desirable.
- Fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic is required.
