The British Embassy in Amman is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual for the position of Social Media and Communications Officer, Grade – B3 (L).

Purpose of the job:
This is a key role in the British Embassy’s Communications Team. The aim is inform external and internal audiences about the Embassy’s work whilst supporting the objectives of both the Embassy as a whole and the individual Sections.

Main Responsibilities:

• You will fully deliver all social media aspects of the Embassy communications strategy, with full responsibility for running all the Embassy’s online presence: Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and website. You will advise on channel use to reach specific audiences, possibly expanding the channels we use (e.g. to YouTube and Snapchat) and ensure a consistent and compelling voice across our channels.
• You will ensure professional, friendly and highly responsive platforms that maintain the highest standards of appearance, both in English and in Arabic.
• You will generate compelling content for our social media outlets, including planning, filming and editing movies, creating high quality infographics, editing photos, generating eye-catching graphic designs and writing informative texts. You will constantly refresh our social media approach so that we remain cutting edge.
• You will maintain and build a network of social media contacts at large implementers of UK programmes and Jordanian media outlets.
• You will maintain an up to date database of journalistic contacts and deploy this database to organise press conferences.

For all staff, it’s about working to agreed goals and activities and dealing with challenges in a responsive and constructive way.
• Seeing the Big Picture – Having an in-depth understanding and knowledge of how your role fits with and supports organisational objectives and the wider public needs. Focussing your contribution on the activities which will meet Embassy goals and deliver the greatest value.

Essential:
• Fluent oral and written English and Arabic
• Minimum two years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a bilateral or multilateral aid agency
• Proven strong knowledge of existing social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram), either from personal or professional use.
• Proven history of graphic design, photography and movie making skills including using programmes such as Final Cut on the iMac
• Deep understanding of the social and media scenes in Jordan at the national and local levels
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• IT literacy in electronic media, Outlook and Word.
• A willingness to work flexibly and as a team-player; ability to interact with people at all levels of seniority.

Desirable:
• Excellent translation skills between English and Arabic.

Working Hours and Remuneration:

The position is full-time, at 37 hours a week with considerations of flexibility depending on circumstances.

The vacancy is offered on the basis of fixed term contract for 12 months.

Pay is on the Embassy B3 (L) scale, with a salary of JOD 1546 per month depending on the candidate’s skills and experience. The package includes a good level of health insurance and a friendly, English-speaking work environment. We offer opportunities to develop professional skills through our Learning & Development offer. Leave entitlement is 25 days (pro-rated) plus 14 public holidays.

Eligibility:

If you are selected for this position, we will be able to employ you as long as you:
• Receive the appropriate level of security clearance;
• Have (or be willing to obtain) the right to live and work in Jordan. Candidate’s residence permit and work permit, and the expense to obtain them, will be their own responsibility.
