Research, Education, and Outreach Coordinator

Closing date

1. Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to, guided and directed by the Director of Institute, the Research, Education, and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for:

a) coordination of the research-, education-, and outreach-related activities conducted by the GFPI

b) provision of administrative support in relation to the GFPI’s engagement with academics, research institutions, centres, organisations, commissioned researchers, and scholarship and research grant awardees

c) development and maintenance of various GFPI databases, and

d) community outreach.

2. Responsibilities:

Research

  • Coordinate and ensure the efficient day-to-day execution of research projects and activities conducted by the GFPI, be it by its in-house research staff, commissioned researchers, or by the Institute’s scholarship and research grant awardees.
  • Support the selection and induction of GFPI university partners’ research interns. Lead, in close coordination with relevant GFPI staff and research interns, on the design and delivery of their research projects/reports, as well as on the preparation and delivery of their field research visits.
  • Support consolidation of existing research tools, standards, protocols, and processes for research production across GFPI.
  • Conduct, as a member of research team, research projects according to the GFPI’s research agenda, demonstrating a high level of competence and an independent standing in research.

Education

  • Support research, fact-finding, and resource development to inform continuous improvement of GFP’s peacebuilding curriculum and instructional design materials.
  • Act as the primary administrative point of contact in relation to the GFPI’s engagement with educational institutions, organisations, and partners, as well as the GFPI’s commissioned education-related consultants.

Community Outreach

  • Develop and/or maintain databases and electronic libraries related to GFPI’s peacebuilding work.
  • Act as the primary administrative point of contact in relation to the GFPI’s engagement with academics and research institutions, centres and organisations, and the GFPI’s commissioned researchers and scholarship and research grant awardees.
  • Support Community of Practice outreach strategies and GFPI’s active online presence by developing microsite online content and ensuring GFPI’s social media presence. Write pieces for pre-identified external platforms, and traditional and new media outlets whenever possible.

Administration

  • Ensure GFPI’s documentation, deliverables and data are maintained consistently in accordance with policies and standards of GFPI.
  • Provide administrative support on the education and research related files.
  • Assist with the planning, preparation and execution of the GFPI’s meetings and events.
  • Manage workload priorities and deadlines for all GFPI activities and events.

Influence and Representation

  • Network and recommend strategic partnerships to advance GFPI’s peacebuilding learning agenda, creating quality linkages between GFPI and partners.

Personal Learning

  • As part of GFPI’s commitment to institutional learning, committing 5% of time to learning activities that provide benefits both personally and to GFPI.

3. Key Results Areas:

  • Research: research activities coordinated and delivered.

  • Community Outreach: databases developed and maintained, and outreach pieces presenting evidence of GFPI’s learning and peacebuilding approach effectiveness published on external platforms.
  • Administration: GFPI internships successfully completed, and planned meetings, events or field research visits conducted.

5. Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

  • B.A. Degree in the demography, social science, public policy, international development, economics, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of professional experience in a relevant position.
  • Demonstrable experience volunteering in development/ community work.
  • Excellent communications skills, both consensus development and interpersonal. Confidence and enthusiasm when communicating to external partners and internal teams in both formal and information presentations.
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and in particular top-quality written English communications.
  • Good analytical, presentation and reporting skills.
  • Good data management and data analysis skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and at least one software application (Atlas.ti, Tableau, SPPS, STATA, R, MAXQDA, Nvivo, Kobo ToolBox, Magpi).
  • Ability to reflect, learn, and improve.
  • Ability to lead projects and work independently; to take initiative, think strategically and work creatively.
  • Ability to perform in a high-energy environment, with a flexible and enthusiastic approach to work, including the thoughtfulness to work effectively with others in a collaborative workplace. A “can do” attitude, and a willingness to “roll-up sleeves” and personally handle all aspects of position.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of different interpretations of communications approaches in global, regional, and local contexts.
  • Strong interest in global current affairs, conflict resolution and peacebuilding, and international development.

Preferred:

  • Experience working internationally and in an international organisation.
  • Experience working in the field of peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
  • Experience in community development and behaviour change.
  • Experience working with different age-groups (children, youth, adults) in different contexts.
