Job Title: Scholarship Coordinator

Reports to: Head of Research, M&E and Scholarships

Location/department: Remote, although preferably based in strategic location for Jusoor (Paris, Berlin, New York, San Francisco, Washington, London, Amman, Beirut, Gulf States)

Jusoor (which means ‘bridges’ in Arabic) is an international NGO founded in 2011 with the mission of Investing in Syria’s Youth for a Better Tomorrow. In the short span of 7 years, the organization has become known as a leading global actor in educational and entrepreneurial programs for Syrian children and youth. To date, Jusoor has enabled more than 607 Syrian students to complete their university education, enrolled 4,631 children in primary education, and supported 82 Syrian entrepreneurs. The organization is known for its innovative approach to development challenges, high-velocity execution, and the strength of its global strategic partnerships and its active volunteer base.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting to Jusoor’s Head of Research & Development, the Scholarship Coordinator is instrumental in ensuring the success of our renowned Scholarship Program, which has sponsored the study of 275 Syrians in nearly 20 countries. The Coordinator directly supports scholars, builds robust student networks, and gives valuable strategic input on program design. The position entails:

  • Build a relationship with Jusoor academic institution partners to ensure students’ needs are being monitored regularly
  • Oversee the program payments due, including coordinating with Jusoor’s Head of Finance to ensure all transfers are made
  • Onboard new students (prepare their Jusoor student contract, collect academic institution documents and other documents as required by Jusoor, and arrange travel as needed)
  • Disseminate the Semesterly Progress Report Google form, following up with students to collect all necessary information, transcript copies, and photos
  • Transfer progress report data to Salesforce to keep student records current
  • Respond to direct inquiries from students regarding their academic program questions and concerns
  • Flag issues of concern to Jusoor’s Head of R&D
  • Respond to inquiries from potential scholarship affiliates
  • Prepare monthly and semesterly updates on student progress for program donors
  • Prepare detailed candidate profiles for potential high school students who are seeking a school placement
  • Notify Jusoor’s communications team member of important milestones (student graduation or award, etc.) and affiliate material to be posted to social media
  • Transition graduating students to Jusoor’s alumni network
  • Keep the Jusoor Scholarship website current
  • Participate in regular team meetings to give program updates and strategic input
  • Coordinate with Jusoor’s Head of R&D to improve program data collection best practices as needed
  • Identify and contact potential scholarship affiliates
  • Create and oversee a mechanism to encourage current student engagement in sharing personal and academic accomplishments
  • Create and oversee a mechanism to encourage alumni engagement, especially contributing mentorship to current scholars
  • Create and oversee a network of students around the globe who advocate for scholarships for Syrians at their campus
  • Identify advertising outlets to raise program awareness

Required Skills, Experience and Abilities:

The ideal candidate has:

  • Ability to prioritize appropriately, multi-task, self-motivate and work independently, as well as part of a remote team when handling a wide range of complex administrative tasks
  • Demonstrated proficiency in data management, Microsoft Office, and other office technologies as well as comfort in learning new proprietary software systems (e.g. Salesforce)
  • Excellence in communicating with tact and diplomacy, both orally and in writing (including to senior management, co-workers, and program beneficiaries and partners)
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills
  • Excellent in written and spoken English, Arabic a strong asset. Translation skills would be highly valued
  • Ability to work occasional non-standard hours including evening and weekends on occasions
  • Passionate about Jusoor’s vision
  • NGO experience in the MENA region is an advantage

Time Commitment:

40 hours a week

Compensation: $1,000 per month
