Project ref: Jayeen, Addressing health and protection needs of marginalized adults and children with disabilities, injuries and impairments from the Syrian refugee and Jordanian communities residing in Amman, Zarqa and Irbid governorates through comprehensive rehabilitation, mental health care and child protection interventions.

Enhancing the quality of life for Syrian refugees and host community members with disabilities, injuries, impairments and mental health disorders, meeting their most urgent health and protection needs and promoting their inclusion and participation in the community.

Job Overview

We are looking for an experienced occupational therapist to join our team and provide therapy and rehabilitation services to persons of concern with our Mobile Unit.

The ideal candidate is someone who is passionate about their work and committed to helping them recover their independence and mobility. We’re looking for someone with experience working with a wide range of injuries and age groups, who is always ready to learn new techniques for a better healthcare for persons with disabilities or injuries.

The person hired for the occupational therapy position would partner with a physical therapist to create a plan of treatment, based on medical records of the case obtained by referral from other respective NGOs, the treatment plan would be consisting of the appropriate exercises, procedures and techniques required to promote effective, safe recovery. The occupational therapist together with the physical therapist will identify people in need of customized rehabilitative services and assistive devices, then, build a customized plan for adults and children with disabilities in need of rehabilitation to address the illnesses or injuries that limit their abilities to move and perform functional activities in their daily lives. Manual therapy, and exercise therapy will be used to promote mobility, function, autonomy and inclusion of persons of concern in the surrounding environment.

Responsibilities for Occupational Therapist

· Support in developing assessment form for initial assessment and ongoing progress with coordination with physical therapist, case worker and other respective project staff.

· Perform initial and ongoing occupational therapy evaluations according to respective standards of practice applied in Jordan.

· Assessing home and work environments of cases, suggesting what adjustments are needed, and assisting caregivers and families of cases in creating a safe and effective environment for the case.

· Develop plan of treatment for each case based on initial and ongoing evaluations including short and long term goals, collaboration demands of other staff members, and required case and caregiver involvement.

· Implement plan of treatment on a consistent schedule and adjust this schedule and plan according to case progress.

· Document case progress according to approved documentation and UPP documentation procedures, and support in needed reporting.

· Develop a plan for cases following completion of their plan of treatment with appropriate in-home care services, and advising on adaptive equipment to help with daily activities.

· Educating caregivers and family members of cases on patient care, and maintenance of assistive devices.

· Maintain professional and technical behavior throughout all visits of case homes, ensuring confidentiality and proper use of confidential information.

· Assist other team members as needed to provide care and create a safe, orderly and effective environment for physical therapy.

· Adhere to and administer organizational procedures regarding implementation, documentation and reporting of activities and progress under supervision of the team leader.

Qualifications of Occupational Therapist

UPP is looking for someone with at least 3 years of experience providing Occupational therapy who have the following qualifications:

· BS or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from a occupational therapy program.

· Current Occupational Therapy license.

· Proven record of matching patient needs to treatment plans and proven record of implementing these plans safely and effectively.

· Strong experience administering a wide range of occupational therapy techniques not limited to:

· Knowledge of responsible use of equipment, best practices for equipment use and preventative maintenance procedures.

· Experience with recommending assistive equipment to patients and home health follow-up programs.

· Experience with a wide range of patient age groups and injuries.

· Knowledge of various Occupational Therapy techniques, and an understanding of when these techniques can benefit patients.

· A strong sense of empathy, a compassionate outlook on PT and the ability to motivate patients into pushing their limits in a responsible, safe way.
