Iraq Project Manager (Civil Society Capacity Building) – Amman, Jordan

Closing date: 15 Aug 2019

ARK is looking for an experienced Project Manager to implement a civil society organization (CSOs) capacity building project in Iraq, focused on strategic communications. The project will support CSOs working in the most complex areas of Iraq to utilize strategic communications in support of stabilisation and reconciliation efforts. A key component of this project is relationship building and effective management of projects in conflict areas.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Project Manager will:

  • Manage the successful implementation of all project activities.
  • Remotely lead, manage, and supervise several in-country implementing partners.
  • Support CSOs to apply innovative strategic communication approaches to promoting offline engagement.
  • Write donor reports on project progress, activities, success, and recommendations.
  • Serve as the main point of contact to donors, partner organizations, and local and national government authorities.
  • Manage program budgets, including tracking of financial and material resources.
  • Manage program expenditures, budget adjustments, and cost modification requests to donors.
  • Contribute to ARK’s wider business development strategy, including through meetings with potential clients and seeking out avenues of new business.
  • Travel to Baghdad/Erbil to brief clients on project activities.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience Required: A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible project management or civil society capacity building experience working on Iraq and/or other MENA countries
  • Native Arabic Language and full professional fluency in written and spoken English
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as international development, political studies, public administration and communications and media studies.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to Baghdad and Erbil to meet partners
  • Experience delivering strategic communications projects using social media platforms in the MENA region
  • Previous work managing Canadian grants and social cohesion/peacebuilding projects is highly desirable
  • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage conflicts within the team and to resolve issues
  • Provide alternative solutions when confronted with problems that may affect the goals or deadlines for the project(s).
  • Ability to work under pressure, be a self-starter, team builder, innovative and demonstrate the capacity for maintaining high professional standards.
