COMMUNICATIONS MANAGER – SOCIAL & BEHAVIOURAL CHANGE COMMUNICATIONS

Closing date

Location: Based in Amman, Jordan, with frequent travels
Reporting Manager: Asia Regional Lead

Expected Start Date: September 2020 (the successful candidate may begin the role remotely, in light of COVID-19)

Remuneration: 2,700-3,800 USD per month + cost of living allowance depending on location. SUMMARY

MAGENTA is a leading Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) Research and Communications agency that specializes in understanding human decision-making processes in order to design communications solutions for positive change in fragile and development settings. Headquartered in Amman and implementing programs across the Middle East, Africa and Asia, we use the latest in behavioural science principles and a rigorous approach to research, strategy, campaign design and implementation.

Our client base includes UN agencies, INGOs, governments and private sector. We aim to amplify the voices of local actors while bringing international expertise and methodological rigour to our work. To do so, we partner with civil society, creative agencies, media and academics to design innovative, relevant and impactful solutions to some of the most challenging problems of our time. Whether we are aiming to shift parenting practices to improve children’s outcomes or to understand how social norms underpin corruption, we always go the extra mile to ensure we are creating positive impact for some of the most underserved populations in the world.

MAGENTA is currently looking to recruit a new Communications Manager to join the Asia team and oversee the implementation of SBCC campaigns in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and other projects in South Asia.

Primary responsibilities of the Communications Manager include: (1) Campaign management, (2) business development, and (3) knowledge management. They will work under the guidance of Programme Directors or the Asia Regional Lead.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The Communications Manager will manage a variety of projects in the SBCC research and communications field. Typical tasks include:

Campaign Management:

  • Provide oversight, management and coordination for ongoing communications campaign;
  • Lead campaign kick-off phase, including resourcing, development of workplans and M&E frameworks;
  • Function as the primary contact for the client and other stakeholders;
  • Develop strategies for the effective implementation of activities, integrating SBC principles throughout;
  • Lead ideation processes and creative development process;
  • Lead the development of original, thought provoking communications content, rooted in evidence;
  • Manage project budgets, deliverables, KPIs and campaign reviews; the Communications Manager will hold ultimate responsibility for delivery against contractual requirements, ensuring they are on time, to budget and delivered strategically;
  • Build and lead project teams, including research and creative teams;
  • Oversee the coordination of project partners e.g. consultants, media, civil society;
  • Conduct internal and external training/workshops on an as-needed basis;
  • Manage project logistics and administrative tasks, including costs tracking, archiving documents, etc.

Business Development in Asia:

  • Contribute to/lead on proposal preparation and submission;
  • Prepare and conduct client presentations;
  • Support in identifying business development opportunities in focus markets;
  • Build partnerships (civil society, media, creative, etc.) in focus markets.
  • Contribute to MAGENTA thought leadership by participating to events, writing content, etc.

Knowledge Management:

  • Contribute to MAGENTA’s databases, including past performance records, contact lists, partner testimonials, meeting notes, etc;
  • Develop project case studies for marketing and program development purposes;
  • Contribute to the MAGENTA Academy by developing regular internal presentation on behavioural sciences theories and models.

REQUIREMENTS & COMPETENCIES

  • Minimum 5-7 years of professional experience;
  • Minimum 3 years of campaign management experience;
  • Strong experience in communications;
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; knowledge of Dari, Pashto, or Urdu highly desired
  • Creative thinker, with the ability to develop new ideas tailored to each project;
  • Implementer at heart who likes to get the ball rolling while not sacrificing the process or principles;
  • Robust logic chain analytics and strong general analytical skills;
  • Solid understanding of project management cycle;
  • Highly numerate, with strong commercial acumen;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities;
  • Demonstrated desire for excellence and an ability to inspire others to attain professional excellence;
  • Demonstrated deep understanding and interest in the Asia region, especially Afghanistan and Pakistan;
  • Innovation driven;
  • Technological fluency;
  • Willingness to travel to and work in developing/post-crisis settings (such as Kabul and Islamabad);
  • Good sense of humour, personable and demonstrated ability to build networks;
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and willingness to get hands dirty;
  • Software fluency: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Office 365;
  • Desirable software fluency: social media analytics and/or data analysis software (Nvivo, SPSS for instance).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Some long hours including evening and weekends to complete tasks or attend events;
  • May involve working in regions that are remote and lack basic modern infrastructure;
