Associate Physiotherapist Trainer (Jordanian Nationals Only)

The Associate Physiotherapist Trainer works as part of an interdisciplinary team to oversee physiotherapy interventions, including individual and group services with adults and children who are survivors of torture and war trauma. This position also provides supervision, coaching and training to a team of physiotherapists and ensures high quality interdisciplinary care through collaboration with counseling, social work and outreach staff. The Associate Physiotherapist Trainer provides education and support to help other organizations better meet the needs of torture and war trauma survivors.

The job description is the same as that of a Physiotherapist/Trainer, however with a lower caseload of supervisees to ensure time for mentoring, extra training and support to adequately build capacity to become a full Physiotherapist/Trainer.

Supervision (30%): Hire, orient, coach, mentor and develop staff members through ongoing feedback, as well as formal performance management systems. Model assessment and treatment methods, lead case consultations, conduct observations and debriefings, and review documentation. Meet regularly with individual physiotherapists and as a team to determine area of further development, monitor progress, provide staff support and promote self-care.

Clinical Management (25%): Assist in the day-to-day operations of the program to ensure program objectives are met and activities are implemented in a timely and professional manner. Coordinate the physiotherapy team to optimize performance and autonomy. Promote collaboration between clinical and administrative teams to ensure high quality interdisciplinary care to clients. Ensure the quality of the physiotherapy team activities. Participate in the review and development of assessment documentation, treatment manuals and outcome measurement tools.

Training (20%): Design and carryout regular training programs for physiotherapists and the wider interdisciplinary team, including ongoing formal training and informal individualized training. Continually assess learning needs of physiotherapists, and adjust individual professional development plans. Adapt training style, content and frequency to meet individual and team needs.

Community Assessment (5%): Carry out need assessments in local communities to determine appropriate physiotherapy interventions for people who have been tortured and/or traumatized by war and identify potential partners, target populations, appropriate program intervention models and program sites. Contribute to reports as required by the clinical team.

Reporting (5%): Prepare and submit reports documenting clinical and training activities and progress achieved toward program objectives. Provide input and feedback for grant reports and proposals.

Program Development and Evaluation (5%): Participate in the design and implementation of new programs as well as program evaluation.

Community Collaboration and Capacity-building (5%): Provide training and coordination with other organizations to better address the needs of torture and war survivors. In coordination with Social Workers, support clients to find appropriate medical care if needed for initiation or continuation of physiotherapy services.

Other Duties (5%): Participate in other program and organization-wide activities, meetings and trainings. Complete administrative responsibilities. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

· B.S. degree from an accredited/approved school of physiotherapy/physical therapy.

  • Practicing license provided by the Jordanian Ministry of Health required

· Extensive experience working as a physiotherapist with a strong orthopedic background and experience in trauma and/or managing clients with mental health conditions

· Experience working with biopsychosocial approaches

· Experience or competencies in managing and supervising staff required. Experience supervising physiotherapists preferred.

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

· Master’s degree or higher degree in physiotherapy or physical therapy.

· Work experience with survivors of torture

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)

· Fluency in English. Fluency in Arabic preferred.

· Cultural sensitivity awareness in working with diverse staff and client populations.

· Understanding of and experience with implementing culturally appropriate physiotherapy interventions for people who have suffered torture and trauma.

· Understanding of and experience developing curriculum and providing training for physiotherapists using experiential learning approaches, and providing training on sensitization on the effects of trauma and war.

· Skilled at carrying out needs assessment and program evaluations desirable.

· Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing program requirements, client needs and political climate.

· Skilled at working as a member of a team; Experience working as part of an interdisciplinary team desirable.

· Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels.

  • Ability to travel regularly by road to a location about an hour away from the office.

· Interest in or commitment to human rights

Supervisory Responsibilities: (Junior)Physiotherapists

Work Environment:

· Typical office environment.

· Frequent travel by road to other locations in Jordan, about 60 minutes each way.

· Time spent on the computer is approximately 40%.

Collaboration:

Internal collaboration: Lead Clinician, (Associate) Psychotherapist/Trainers, (Associate) Physiotherapist/Trainers, Social Services Manager,Clinical Systems Manager, M&E team, Training Manager, Outreach and Partnership Manager, national clinicians and program staff, HR Manager, and Country Director, (HQ) International Services Program Team, Research Department.

External Collaboration: Beneficiaries, other service providers in the field, donors, and funders.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for up to 2 hours; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift supplies, of 30 pounds and be able to assist in mobility transfers of clients.

Travel: Ability to travel regularly to an office located one hour away, as well as travel within the city.
