Project Accountant – SOS Children’s Villages Jordan
Position title: Project Accountant
Working location: Amman Village.
Direct supervisor: Village Director
Functional supervisor (if any): Financial Controller/Chief Accountant
Mission of the position:
The Accountant is responsible for fulfilling the financial requirements of SOS Children’s Village. In particular, s/he ensures that all SOS financial procedures and requirements are implemented and adhered to. In addition, s/he performs various administrative functions, supporting the Village Director in any manner possible.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities:
- Performs detailed accounting tasks of the project
ð Prepares payment vouchers, cheques and petty cash payments.
ð Ensures that all invoices are paid promptly to protect the reputation of SOS Children’s Villages.
ð Prepares Bank and Cash Registers and bank reconciliation statements. Submits registers, together with all supporting receipts and vouchers, to the Finance Officer.
ð Replenishes the Project’s petty cash float and ensures this is responsibly and effectively used at all times.
ð Banks all income received and effects all cash withdrawals.
ð Administers the project payroll. Ensures correct payment of income tax and other statutory deductions.
ð Submits a projected income and expense form and requests regular transfers to ensure sufficient running cost funds are received for the project.
- Ensures that Financial Resources are used effectively
ð Assists the Project Head in the preparation of the annual budget of the Project.
ð Monitors expenditures, ensuring the Project is run as economically as possible, in accordance with the provisions of the annual budget. Reports any irregularities to the Project Head.
ð Ensures that all cash, cheque books and financial records are properly stored and safely secured at all times.
ð Ensures that any financial policies, as established by SOS Children’s Village International or the National Association, are implemented and adhered to.
- Ensures the proper collection of fees
ð Monitors & records all fees collected & ensures issuance of proper receipts & proper banking.
ð Maintains a fee register, where appropriate (e.g. within a School) in order to ensure all fees due to the Project are promptly collected. Reports any overdue amount to the Village Director and takes appropriate action.
- Performs general administrative tasks
ð Updates the inventory and fixed asset register of the Project as assets are acquired. Conducts annual inventory control audits.
ð Purchases stationary, equipment and other supplies, and deals with various suppliers as necessary. Consults the Village Director before making major purchases.
ð Controls the use of office telephones and fax machines by implementing appropriate registers &/or control measures. Ensures all private calls are charged to the individual concerned.
ð Assists with the establishment of proper store-keeping records and procedures. Conducts regular checks off all stores (e.g. drug stores, stationary stores, etc.) to ensure stock-cards are accurate and all proper procedures are being followed.
ð Supports the Village Director in any way possible, removing the burden of general financial management from him/her.
ð Sits in as a member of the Children’s Village Management Committee.
- Data Protection
ð At all times ensures that personal data of donors, sponsors, SOS CV beneficiaries and their families as well as SOS co-workers is handled confidentially and in accordance with prevailing SOS Children’s Village International data protection laws.
- Performs other reasonable tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor
Job requirement :
- At least a BA degree in Finance or Accounting or related field.
- At least 2 years of continuous work experience, including experience in NGOs.
- Proven communication and organisational skills.
- Excellent English and Arabic speaking and writing skills.
- Identification with the values of the organisation/ association and willingness to contribute to its aims.
- Hard-working, dedicated and able to work under pressure.
