SOS Children’s Villages International is the umbrella organisation for the global federation of SOS Children’s Village (SOS CVI). As a non-governmental social development organisation we support children without parental care and families in difficult living conditions through services in care, education, health and emergency relief, and we advocate for the rights of children and young people, in alliance with a great diversity of partners. We work in 135 countries and territories, reaching over one million children, young people, families and caregivers each year. For the Regional Office CEE/CIS/Middle East we are looking for a committed:

Head of Finance and Controlling (f/m)

Location International Office Region, CEE/CIS/ME (IOR EUCM), Office Amman, Jordan

Mission

The mission of Finance & Controlling is to enable transparency, accountability as well as the efficient and proper use of resources and funds for maximising the impact on children and young people in our care.

The position of Head of Finance and Controlling is a direct report to the regional Director Finance and Controlling located in the International Office Region in Vienna, Austria and the job holder is responsible for servicing Member Associations and programs in six countries in the Middle East (Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Egypt).

The Head of Finance and Controlling organizes and ensures a high quality support service to national Member Associations of the international Federation of SOS Children’s Villages so that they can fully comply with the SOS CVI quality standards and regulations set out in the area of financial management.

This implies targeted support to deliver accounting and other financial data, strategy plans and analysis in high quality and in time to the Federation and Donors.

It implies the overseeing of the international funds flow between Member Associations and donor organisations and includes in particular the monitoring of budget execution, forecasts and liquidity.

Pro-active information and recommendations to the regional management team and close cooperation with other function experts supports decision making and fiduciary compliance.

This senior position overall contributes to building strong capacities in Member Associations, to manage financial risks for the Federation, to focus on the responsible and transparent use of resources and hence to ensure the sustainability of the federation-wide funding model in order to grow our impact globally.

Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Leading a team of two Finance and Controlling Advisors servicing Member Associations and one Office Coordinator in the Branch Office Amman, including responsibility for directly servicing at least one Member Association in the Region
  • Support and consolidate services for Member Associations (clients) along the financial cycle (planning, budgeting, forecasting, controlling & reporting, liquidity planning and funds management, accounts closure, annual and mid-term planning)
  • Work in close and aligned cross-functional cooperation with other functional heads and line management to achieve best quality results in supporting and servicing Member Associations towards defined goals
  • Develop and monitor action plans to improve capacity, financial quality and compliance in programs in close alignment with other functions and line management
  • Support Member Association in stabilization of financial crisis situation, contribute to action planning and follow up
  • Advice and monitor Member Associations in setting up an internal control environment and support enforcement as needed
  • Set up strong affiliation with Member Associations and ensure that the regional office finance team through regular country and program visits has a deep understanding on the needs and capacities of the finance staff in programs and field work and is able to run a systematic capacity building process in coordination with other function experts.
  • Provide management support to the regional Director Finance and Controlling and join in regional network activities and projects on regional and global level
  • Fully responsible for administrative and financial management of the Office Amman, including accounting work in line with national legislation and SOS internal standards, reporting, financial statements, monitoring bank and cash management
  • Develop and roll out written standard procedures for financial and administrative office management in office Amman

Requirements

  • Master degree in Economic Sciences, preferably in the area of financial management, economics, accounting, banking, or business administration or Bachelor degree with additional work experience in relevant work fields
  • Proven track record of minimum 5-6 years in profit or non-profit sector in a position of Head of department as financial manager, senior accountant, senior controller, leading a team of direct reports with budget responsibility and reporting line towards executive management
  • Knowledge in accounting software MS Dynamics Navision (an asset), or other ERP systems and interest to further grow knowledge in this field
  • Ability and persistence to work in a demanding and complex work environment with a clear focus on reaching for best quality
  • Team player familiar to work collaboratively in a cross-functional approach with solution oriented and open mind-set
  • Distinct advisory skills to build up capacity in member associations in a service oriented mind set
  • Skilled in assessing and improving effectiveness of an internal control environment, and optimizing financial processes (experience in internal audit work an asset)
  • Combining a strategic and analytical view with the attention to operational details
  • Strong communication, presentation and training skills
  • Excellent leadership skills with role modelling a distinct dedication to a high standard of integrity & compliance
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under pressure, efficient task prioritization and strong self-management
  • Strong advanced MS Office skills (MS Excel, PowerPoint), virtual collaboration platforms
  • Excellent in spoken and written English and Arabic language
  • Readiness and ability to travel regularly in middle East countries of the region
