Grant Proposal Specialist

1. Purpose of the Position:

Reporting to the Development and Partnerships Director (DPD), the role of the Grant Proposal Specialist is to support the DPD in the design and implementation of GFP’s fundraising strategy with an emphasis on proposal development, review and coordination. The Grant Proposal Specialist manages the GFP’s day-to-day proposal development process; prepares high-quality and effective fundraising materials, including but not limited to grant and partner proposals, fundraising-specific documents, and reports to identified target donors and partners including governmental donors, non-governmental philanthropic donors, and commercial partners; and reviews proposals and reports prepared by other colleagues. S/he, in collaboration with the DPD, also identifies, researches and engages prospective donors and partners, introducing them to GFP and building a relationship for support. The Grant Proposal Specialist will apply best practices and the highest standards of accuracy, and coordinate with the Programmes, Support Services, Finance, and Communications Departments, the Institute, and GFP Delegates and Pioneers, to deliver carefully-tailored, timely proposals and reports with high quality text, data, and references, to secure new and increased funding for Generations For Peace programmes, research and capacity development.

2. Responsibilities:

Proposals and Reports

  • Managing GFP’s day-to-day proposal development process, tracking the status of ongoing proposals led by the Grant Proposal Specialist and other colleagues, ensuring deadlines are met and that proposed programmes align with GFP and donor priorities
  • Strategically focusing on targeted priority opportunities (in Jordan, USA, and elsewhere) ranked in priority order in discussion with DPD
  • Developing proposal plans, timelines, and templates in compliance with specific donor requirements to effectively coordinate between departments and ensure timely submission of proposals and reports
  • Researching background materials (including country context analyses, country strategies, previous proposals, donor strategies, reports, and research studies), and gathering input of Programmes Department and GFP Delegates and Pioneers to produce relevant, informed, and locally responsive proposals and reports
  • Developing and using in-depth knowledge of GFP programs, including values, approach, and impact, to describe persuasively to donors, partners, and stakeholders
  • Liaising with the Programmes Department and Institute, and other colleagues, to coordinate proposal and report inputs which include high quality text, data, photos and video, which combine research and evaluation data with compelling human stories with photos and videos showing positive impact for beneficiaries
  • Preparing strategically-tailored proposalsfor donors and partners, applying best practice and the highest standards of accuracy, taking personal responsibility for the quality of all GFP proposals to donors and partners
  • Preparing high quality, impact-driven reports for donors and partners, applying best practice and the highest standards of accuracy, taking personal responsibility for the quality of all GFP reports to donors and partners
  • Reviewing proposals prepared by other colleagues, ensuring they comply with donor priorities and guidelines and persuasively describe GFP’s proposed actions
  • Ensuring effective handover of successful proposals to the Grants Management Team, and supporting them in the grant kick-off process

Donor and Partner Development

  • Researching prospective donors and partners and identifying new prospects and funding opportunities
  • Scheduling and participating in donor and partner meetings and obtaining feedback from donors and partners to allow Generations For Peace to respond to their needs

Fundraising Knowledge Management

  • Utilising the server, OneDrive, Teamwork.com, Salesforce and other systems to improve and innovateFundraising Department fundraising and knowledge management practices
  • Participating in intra- and inter-departmental meetings to ensure collaboration and coordination between and among the Fundraising Department and other colleagues; including but not limited to weekly calls with DPD, bi-weekly Fundraising meetings, coordination calls with other departments, Facetime with Programmes, all-staff meetings and presentations, etc.

5. Education, Qualifications, Competences, Skills Required:

Essential:

  • Master’s Degree minimum, in a relevant discipline
  • At least 5 years’ professional experience in non-profit fundraising, communications and donor engagement
  • Specific experience and track-record in securing governmental donor funds: grant proposal writing and reporting, including for USAID, US Department of State, EU, DFID, Norwegian Government, etc.
  • Specific experience and track-record in securing Non-Governmental donor funds from foundations and philanthropic donors: grant proposal writing and reporting, including for US-based foundations
  • Experience managing and coordinating proposal inputs from various colleagues, and overseeing grant-writing processes in a non-profit
  • Experience drafting high quality communications in different formats
  • Excellent spoken and written English, and in particular top quality written English communications
  • Excellent attention to detail and time management skills, ability to handle multiple competing deadlines and priorities
  • Excellent computer skills (documents/spreadsheets/databases/presentations/multi-media/calendars/email)
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of different interpretations of communications approaches in different global, regional, and local contexts
  • Interest in global current affairs, conflict resolution and peace building, and international development
  • Proven ability to fit into a young, diverse, dynamic team as a team player, leader, mentor, and capacity-builder

Preferred:

  • Experience and track-record in securing Commercial Partner support in cash and value-in-kind
  • Experience in an international peacebuilding organisation

Proficiency in Arabic is useful but not required
