Job title: Child Protection Specialist

Duty stations: Amman, Zarqa – Jordan

Contract period: 2 months

Project ref: Rihlat Amani (My journey to safety). Initiative to support the achievement of minimum protection standards for particularly vulnerable people among refugees and host communities in the governorates of Amman and Zarqa.

Project purpose:

Increase access to integrated mental health and protection services and provide services for the prevention and response to gender-based violence and on minors and people with disabilities in the Governorates of Amman and Zarqa

Job Overview:

We are looking for an organized and experienced Child protection specialised trainer to join our organization. The Child Protection Specialist will be responsible for developing and delivering a capacity building plan on Protection aimed at increasing Child Protection Mainstreaming capacities, prevention of violence in schools, and promotion of disability inclusion complete with materials, tutorials, instructions, and learning resources such as online modules and guides.

The ideal candidate will be a confident public speaker and mentor who is up-to-date on the latest tools and resources needed to deliver a comprehensive training with noticeable outcomes. The Specialist will also be responsible for tracking and evaluating the trainees’ progress, and following up on needed actions for the training. The trainings will be carried out for staff and volunteers of local community based organizations (CBO) and organizations for persons with disabilities (PDO). In addition, the Child Protection Specialist will provide technical advice and support all other project activities targeting children and children with disabilities.

Specific modules will be delivered in coordination with UPP project staff and may include:

· Foundations in Child Protection

· Child Friendly communication techniques

· Basic techniques on social emotional learning and “life skills”

· Parenting skills

· Focus on inclusion of children and adolescents with disabilities

· CP case identification and safe referrals

The Child Protection Specialist main responsibilities are:

· Carry out capacity assessment of staff and volunteers of identified CBOs and PDOs including surveys and interviews

· Develop a tailored capacity building plan according to assessment findings

· Pilot and review drafted training materials.

· Coordinate and conduct trainings in respective CBOs and PDOs.

· Review trainees’ performance and learning.

· Provide a report on capacity building activities and recommendations.

· Liaise with UPP protection staff to support referral pathways and linkages to other programmes.

· Provide technical input and support to project’s activities targeting children with and without disabilities.

· Adhere to and administer organizational procedures regarding implementation, documentation and reporting of activities and progress under supervision of the Project Manager.

Qualifications of Child Protection Specialist

· At least 4 years of related experience performing required tasks, preferably in complex emergency or relief context.

· BA or BS in social work, social sciences, special education; or relevant discipline.

· Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English languages.

· Strong knowledge of child protection principles and practice. Knowledge of protection of persons with disabilities and/or youth development.

· Excellent training and coaching skills.

· Experience in the region and refugee settings.

· Experience working with local community based organizations (CBO) and organizations for persons with disabilities (PDO) a strong asset.

· Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

· Strong verbal and written communications skills.
