Emergency Specialist P-3, MENARO, JORDAN, #113603 (364 days)

Closing date

UNICEF works in some of the world’s toughest places, to reach the world’s most disadvantaged children. To save their lives. To defend their rights. To help them fulfill their potential.

Across 190 countries and territories, we work for every child, everywhere, every day, to build a better world for everyone.

And we never give up.

For every child, Hope

UNICEF Middle East and North Africa Regional Office (MENARO) based in Amman, Jordan, works across 19 countries. The region is one of the largest and most complex in UNICEF, with a range of country typologies and several on-going large-scale emergencies. The region has low levels of per capita income relative to its wealth, high levels of illiteracy, poor health and educational outcomes in comparison with countries of comparable income levels; gender inequalities; presence of harmful social norms and practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C) as well as violence against children and Gender-Based Violence (GBV); high youth unemployment; authoritarianism; and acute conflicts with mass internal and external displacement. The region is also characterized by increasing vulnerability to climate change, pressure on water resources, infectious disease outbreaks and constraints on civil society participation. UNICEF MENARO works across the region to support country offices to more effectively deliver better results for children, through enhancing programme excellence in health, nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene promotion, gender, child protection and education; generating and disseminating public goods; and strengthening organizational management effectiveness and efficiency. Emergency response and humanitarian actions undergird all areas.

UNICEF aims to put affected families, children and adolescents at the centre of its work, as reflected in the Core Commitments for Children and various global reforms. This requires all UNICEF programmes, systems and procedures to systematically include participation of and accountability to, affected people across all elements of the response, including through a common feedback mechanism ensuring that feedback from affected boys, girls, men and women informs decision-making and that UNICEF staff and partners understand, respect and systematically take the view of community to account.
